What is it, and what is its current status?
The Electrical Bulletin or Electrical Installation Certificate (CIE) it is the official document certifying that your installation meets all safety requirements mandated by the Low Voltage Electrotechnical Regulation (REBT) and is suitable for receiving an electricity supply.
📌 Important: Electrical certificates are valid for 20 years. Once this period has elapsed, if the distribution company requires one to process a request, you will need to arrange for the renewal of the installation.
When is an IEC required?
The distribution company (Endesa / e-distribución) requires the submission of an up-to-date Electrical Installation Certificate for the following mandatory procedures:
- When setting up electricity service for the first time.
- Upon increasing the electrical power beyond the level recorded in the certificate.
- When switching the installation from single-phase to three-phase, and vice versa.
- Upon expiration, 20 years after its issuance.
📌 If your electrical installation certificate is more than 20 years old and you need to change the account holder or reactivate a disconnected meter, the distributor will require you to renew the installation first.
